| Thymiana - Karfas |
They have about 2.000 residents and they are located on the southeastern side of the island. Thimiana is 8km away from the capital, 2km less than Karfas.
The Municipality of Agios Minas, the most popular part of Chios, is located on the east side of the island and includes Thimiana and Neochorio, as well as the coastal settlements of Karfas, Agia Ermioni, Megas Limionas and Agia Fotini. The municipality headquarters are based in Thimiana, which used to be divided in three smaller medieval settlements, namely Vrana (Ai Nikolis), Adrikiana (Maroulou, Fakas, Fragovouni) and Patrikia. The village was formerly known as Evfimiana, named after a famous local reddish-brown limestone, which is the dominant material used in the manor-houses of Kampos. One of the most characteristic constructions featuring this famous stone is the church of Agios Efstratios, the local architectural gem, built in 1890.
Karfas Karfas is located about 6km away from the capital and, touristically speaking, it is the best developed part of the island. It has a lovely long beach with crystal clear waters and golden sands, perfect for water spots. There are lots of places to stay and numerous restaurants and bars to liven up your nights. |
