It is a littoral picturesque town that counts about 2000 people. It lies at the south of the Prefecture, 51 klm. far from Kalamata.

 Its houses, are amphitheatrically built on a low hill, reminding a Cycladian city. Narow, uphill, clean ways and steps, low houses painted with three colors -usually white, yelow and blue- and azure or red windows. A very "cheerful" way - painted, lenghtwise at both sides and horizontal, with lime, white low stone walls and flowerpots with flowers of many colors - leads from a small square to the castle.
