It is a littoral beautiful town, with 1.000 inhabitants that lies at the western part of the Prefecture, 60km south-west of Kalamata.

It was one of the well-known ports of the ancient times as well as of the Byzantine Times and during the Turkish domination too. There is an impressive castle that was built by the Venetians at the beginning of the 13th century. At the place where the castle is connected with the land, the Venetians opened a ditch and constructed a wooden bridge, which was replaced by a stone one with fourteen arches which are still saved.
